Following on from the success of the previous year’s Living Memory event, Grimsby and Cleethorpes District Scouts were proud to lead local commemorations of the centenary of the Battle of Passchendaele, by encouraging people to find out about some of the forgotten graves near them and the stories of the soldiers buried there.
Our event this year also included ‘For Those in Peril’ which was an initiative by the CWGC to encourage people to research, remember and share local stories of those who left their homes to join the war at sea.
Added poignancy was added as the event also took place on the centenary of the death of Bert Wood- so all participants took a few moments to pause at his grave and to reflect on the wonderful legacy of Scouting in the area, that he left us.
