Following on from the success of previous years events, Grimsby and Cleethorpes District Scouts were once again proud to lead local commemorations of the centenary of the formation of the RAF, by encouraging people to find out about some of the forgotten graves near them and the stories of the soldiers and airmen buried there.
Over the course of the weekend over 100 people took part in self guided trails and activities for families around the cemetery, painted a Remembrance rock, did gravestone rubbings, made a poppy or a paper aeroplane and followed a trail. We made a physical trail which also involved smartphones and QR codes to discover more about the First World War Casualties buried in our town- especially the 8 WW1 RAF casualties in the cemetery, and also a little about what life was like for some of the young people of Grimsby and Cleethorpes 100 years ago.
