Lance Corporal John ‘Bert’ Smart of “A” Coy. 10th Bn Lincolnshire Regiment, was injured on 1st July 1916- in the first day of the battle of the Somme.
His service records list him as having died of gunshot.
Before the war he lived with his parents John Thomas and Sarah Smart, of 54, Convamore Rd, Grimsby and worked as a Shipping agents clerk.
On the 6th November 2016 Scouts and members of the public gathered in Scartho Road Cemetery to learn more about the casualties buried there. Below is a picture of Scouts gathered around Bert’s grave.
